About this game

About Eight Ball

Eight Ball is a two-player pocket billiards match using Questly's streamlined WPA-style rules. The table stays open through the break, then the first legal single-group pocket claims solids or stripes. Clear your group, call a pocket, and legally pocket the eight-ball to win. An early eight-ball, a wrong pocket, or a scratch on that shot loses the match.

How to play

How to play Eight Ball

Pocket your group, then call and make the eight-ball without fouling.

Drag from the cue ball to aim and set power, then release. A legal break must pocket an object ball or drive four object balls to rails; groups always remain open on the break. Afterward, hit a legal object ball first and either pocket a ball or send a ball to a rail. Clear your group, tap a pocket to call it, then pocket the eight-ball there without fouling.

01

Aim

The table stays open on the break; claim a group with the next legal single-group pocket.

02

Shoot

Hit your group first and pocket a ball or reach a rail.

03

Call and clear

After your group is clear, tap a pocket to call it before shooting the eight-ball.

Tips for Eight Ball

  • Leave the cue ball where the next shot is easy, not just where a ball goes in.
  • A break scratch gives ball-in-hand behind the head string; later fouls give ball-in-hand anywhere.
  • The eight-ball is spotted if made on the break. It only wins later, after your group was already clear at the start of the shot.

Frequently asked about Eight Ball

How many players can join?

Two. You can also practice solo against a simple computer opponent.

Which rules does this use?

Questly uses a streamlined WPA-style ruleset. Ordinary object balls do not need a called pocket, but the eight-ball does. A mixed solids-and-stripes pocket on an open table leaves the table open.
