Standard chess with White and Black taking turns under ordinary movement, capture, castling, en passant, and promotion rules. Play a friend in a two-seat room or sit across from the built-in opponent. The board uses original Questly styling. Checkmate ends the game; stalemate and the usual dead positions are draws.

How to play

How to play Chess

Checkmate the computer’s king while keeping your own king safe.

Select one of your pieces, then select a legal destination. Castling happens when you move the king two squares toward a rook that has not moved. Promote a pawn that reaches the far rank.

Select a white piece to see the move you intend.

Choose a legal square

Move according to that piece’s rules; illegal moves are rejected.

Build an attack

Attack the black king so it has no legal escape.

Tips for Chess

  • Develop knights and bishops before launching the queen.
  • Castle early enough that the king is not stuck in the center.
  • A hanging piece is often a worse problem than a slightly worse pawn structure.
